THE BEER MAN SHOW – Chugging Pliny The Younger at 38º

Pliny The Younger by Russian River Brewing Company is a Triple IPA. It’s brewed with triple the amount of hops as a regular IPA and extremely difficult and very expensive to make. There’s a limited seasonal distribution offered on draft at select accounts during the month of February. So, it’s kind of a big deal for beer geeks who’ll purchase tickets in advance and wait in line with hundreds of others just to chug one pint of Pliny’s golden nectar.

One of these accounts is 38 Degrees Ale House and Grill in Alhambra, CA. Here’s the deal, 38 Degrees offers 38 rotating beers on tap all served at 38 degrees fahrenheit. The owner, Clay Harding, has been part of the Los Angeles beer scene since his father brought craft beer to the people of Pasadena from Crown City Brewery over 25 years ago. I’ve heard that Clay will sample 25 – 30 new beers a week  to make sure that what’s on tap is up to snuff. And, I must say, he succeeds. The selection will make any beer geek smile.

In addition to great beer, there’s a delicious food menu, including Starters, Soups & Salads, Burgers & Sandwiches, Main Courses, and Desserts. Without too much trouble one could spend the better part of the day setting ’em up, knocking ’em back, and stuffing the pie-hole. Let’s face it, over-hydrating’s fine, just don’t eat like a pig and drive. That could get you in trouble.

Anyway, Clay was more then happy to accommodate THE BEER MAN SHOW as we shot this short piece about the subject. I was presented with a flight of 4 Russian River Brewing Company beers: Damnation, Blind Pig, Pliny The Elder, and Pliny The Younger. All of them were delicious and before long I knocked  ’em down the hatch.

After cameras stopped rolling 38 Degrees started rolling out more Pliny for the crew. Gotta love this place!

Hey, the beer’s not gonna drink itself!!!

Bottoms Up,
